Forschungszentrum Informatik

The FZI Research Centre for Information Technology is a non-profit institution for information technology application research and technology transfer. It brings the latest scientific findings in information technology to companies and public institutions and qualifies young people for academic and business careers or the leap into self-employment. Young scientists come to the FZI to conduct research for their doctorates. By working closely with clients, they gain experience for future management tasks. They often move into management positions directly after their work at the FZI.

Supported by professors from various faculties, the research groups at the FZI develop interdisciplinary concepts, software, hardware, and system solutions for their clients and prototype the solutions they find. Scientific excellence and lived interdisciplinarity are thus anchored in the organization. All research areas of the FZI work with a quality management system certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and based on the FZI guiding principles (code of values, code of conduct, management guidelines). In the field of information technology, the FZI is the innovation hub in Baden-Württemberg. As a business-oriented research institution, we fulfil the task of an interface between university research and practical application. We are the innovation partner in the field of IT of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the economy and a member of the innovation alliance innBW as well as the innovation alliance TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe. The FZI is a partner in the Leading-Edge Cluster Electromobility South-West and in the DIZ | Digital Innovation Centre. It supports the AXEL accelerator program.
