JamaicaVM 3.4 – Smaller, Faster and with Improved Start-Up Time

Karlsruhe, Germany–22 July, 2009

Version 3.4 of the JamaicaVM hard realtime embedded Java solution from aicas is available now. Following the success of Version 3.2, which introduced a host of new features, such as Java 5 support including generics, enumerations, and the concurrent API, the new version features optimizations of many important features. Start-up time, code size, and performance – especially of large and complex applications – have been improved significantly. Applications now load up to 20% faster. Additionally, memory mapping has been improved, saving up to 20% of RAM compared to previous JamaicaVM versions. These optimizations extend JamaicaVM's technology lead over competing embedded Java solutions even further. JamaicaVM 3.4 enables the use of Java technology on performance and resource constrained systems.

Graphics support has been improved further, and JamaicaVM now supports Swing applications using the X Window System. The X Window System interface is most commonly used on embedded Linux systems, but can also be used to enable graphics on systems without supported native OS graphics libraries. JamaicaVM continues to support VxWorks, Windows CE, and OS-9 graphics.

Tools for performance analysis and application debugging have also been extended. JamaicaVM now supports Java source code-level debugging with any JVMTI compliant tool. In addition to Ecplise-based tools such as WindRiver Workbench, Momentix and Codeo, for example you can now use NetBeans for debugging too.

A fully functional evaluation distribution of JamaicaVM 3.4 with a free 45-day evaluation license is available online at http://www.aicas.com.
