aicas Becomes Microsoft Windows Embedded Partner
JamaicaVM™ Java Technology for Windows Embedded CE Environments
New Haven, CT — December 10, 2007
aicas, the leading supplier of Java technology for high-performance embedded applications,
has become a member of Microsoft Windows Embedded Partner Program.
JamaicaVM, aicas’ flagship product, is a standards-compliant Java
Virtual Machine (JVM) that is used for a broad variety of embedded
applications. With aicas as a partner within the Microsoft Windows
Embedded ecosystem, developers now have available a robust, powerful JVM
that operates under Windows Embedded CE. JamaicaVM addresses all
Windows Embedded CE segments, including mobile devices, personal
electronics, industrial automation, process control, medical apparatus,
test systems, telecommunications devices...
JamaicaVM brings the power and safety of the Java programming language to
Windows Embedded CE, giving Windows Embedded CE developers true
write-once, run-anywhere programming. Java’ Swing graphics, with its
color depth and resolution independence, is particularly useful for
Windows Embedded CE users. JamaicaVM was the first available
industrial-strength implementation of the Real-Time Specification for
Java (RTSJ), and remains the only RTSJ implementation commercially
available on a broad range of operating systems and processor families.
JamaicaVM adds the realtime programming APIs of the RTSJ to the
predictable execution of its patented realtime garbage collector and
Java Virtual Machine. The garbage collector eliminates memory leaks and
efficiently avoids memory fragmentation for robust application
performance. Additionally, JamaicaVM can use ahead-of-time compilation
and smart linking to create the kinds of low startup time,
high-perfomance, low memory footprint applications usually associated
with more traditional programming languages.
Microsoft Windows Embedded CE is a general-purpose operating system for
embedded applications. It has been used with a very broad variety of
platforms. Java in general is platform-independent, and JamaicaVM is as
well. Windows Embedded CE has attained its own version of platform
independence, as adaptations are available for many processor
architectures. JamaicaVM and Windows Embedded CE complement and augment
each other by bringing together two widely used environments, each with
its own set of benefits.
"We are pleased that aicas has joined the Windows Embedded Partner
Program, " said Jeff Felbeck, senior partner marketing manager with
Windows Embedded at Microsoft Corp. "With Windows Embedded CE and the
real-time and safety benefits of aicas’ JamaicaVM solution, developers
will be able to create smarter, more connected devices for everyday
experiences in the home, on the road and at work."
"aicas is very pleased to join the Windows Embedded Partner Program,"
said David Reddy, vice president of aicas incorporated. "JamaicaVM and
Windows Embedded CE together create a powerful platform for embedded
systems development. We look forward to bringing the power of Java
graphics and programming to developers using this important embedded
systems environment."
