aicas GmbH and SYSGO AG Form Partnership

JamaicaVM and PikeOS Product Lines to be Coordinated

Karlsruhe and Mainz, Germany—August 7, 2007

aicas GmbH, the leading supplier of Java technology for critical realtime applications, and SYSGO AG, the global supplier of highly reliable device software, have announced the availability of the aicas JamaicaVM for PikeOS. This is the first result of a planned series of strategic collaborative efforts between the companies. The companies also agreed to coordinate their research activities in connection with enhanced operating system support for Java.

The aicas/SYSGO partnership is particularly appropriate in view of the common focus of the two companies: they both specialize in highly reliable software for critical systems that are used in aerospace & defense, industrial automation and medical systems. The new partnership will strengthen both companies in significant ways.

JamaicaVM, aicas' flagship product, is a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that provides performance guarantees for all primitive Java operations, thus satisfying the main requirement for hard realtime performance. It is the only JVM that has an efficient and reliable hard realtime garbage collector. JamaicaVM is guaranteed to recycle all garbage memory. It prevents memory leaks and deals efficiently with fragmented memory. JamaicaVM is small and very efficient. With its speed and its performance guarantees, JamaicaVM is an ideal environment for critical applications.

PikeOS and ELinOS are two of SYSGO's main product offerings. ELinOS is a Linux distribution. PikeOS is a powerful and efficient paravirtualization realtime operating system that is based on a separation microkernel. It supports heterogeneous software architectures that can contain multiple additional operating systems and runtime environments, such as Java, ARINC 653, VxWorks, and POSIX. With its support for multiple operating systems and runtime environments, PikeOS can support a combination of legacy software and new software, all running on one CPU. It is very effective as an operating system for migration to new environments, while allowing the continued use of older software. The PikeOS partitioning system, in conjunction with its internal protection mechanisms, provides the highest available level of safety and security.

"We are very pleased to be working with aicas, both as reseller of their products and joint developer of significant new technology," said Knut Degen, SYSGO's CEO. "The aicas focus on reliability and their support for critical systems are perfectly aligned with our own company's approach and will no doubt be highly beneficial to us and our customers as we go forward."

"SYSGO's PikeOS separation microkernel is an ideal operating system for safety critical applications, such as those in which JamaicaVM is often used," said Andy Walter, aicas COO. "PikeOS provides a further level of security that complements JamaicaVM's strength in this most important area."

JamaicaVM for ELinOS and PikeOS is available through both company's channels.
