JamaicaVM Swings!

Karlsruhe, 15 January 2006.

Embedded Interface

The graphical abilities of the JamaicaVM

Karlsruhe, 15 January 2006. aicas anounces the latest release of its award winning realtime Java development environment, the JamaicaVM. Version 2.8 broadens the application spectrum of the JamaicaVM significantly. Some of the key enhancements of this release are the graphical support, improved performance, and better usability.

One of the major features in this new version is support for a significant subset of AWT and Swing, which makes the development of sophisticated graphical applications on embedded systems possible. Graphic support is currently available for VxWorks, OS-9, Linux, and Windows CE. Thanks to its realtime automatic memory management, the JamaicaVM 2.8 enables the development of modern embedded systems that not only require a friendly and rich user interface, but also provide reliable and predictable behaviour.

The internals of the JamaicaVM have also been improved. Optimizations in the internal data structures, the Reflection API, and the class loading mechanism lead to not only better performance, but they also reduce the application's memory requirements. For example, an improved array structure reduces the memory requirement up to 10% while improving overall performance up to 4%. Thus, aicas strives not only to satisfy the requirement for determinism in critical realtime systems, but also to deliver maximum performance.

Because development efficiency is also a vital issue, the usability of JamaicaVM has been improved in this new version. Many Java exceptions and error messages are now more concisely written, thereby aiding Java developers to find errors more easily. The support for JDK 1.4 has also been extended.

The JamaicaVM is available for evaluation free of charge. The release 2.8 can be downloaded from the aicas web site http://www.aicas.com. For more information regarding the JamaicaVM please contact info@aicas.com.

About JamaicaVM

JamaicaVM is a Java implementation for deeply embedded and time critical systems. JamaicaVM is based on an advanced realtime memory management technology (garbage collection) enabling the use of Java technology even for time and safety critical applications. Tools, such as the Jamaica Compiler and Builder, optimize the runtime performance and memory demand and provide for the analysis of the realtime behavior of Java applications.
