The growing demand for processing power for the increasingly complex tasks realized by these systems can only be met by the use of multi-core systems. More so than desktop systems, embedded systems often have additional requirements for predictable timing behaviour and safety-criticality.Solutions exist today to support these specific requirements. aicas' JamaicaVM, a hard real-time Java VM with fully deterministic garbage collection, and SYSGO's PikeOS, an SSV (Safe and Secure Virtualization)-based RTOS, both support SMP multi-core platforms. As a direct result of the JEOPARD project (see http://www.jeopard.org), there are now examples of industrial applications taking advantage of the integration of these two products. This webinar presents the unique features and capabilities of a real-time Java environment running on a multi-partitioned RTOS especially designed to make a full use of multi-core architectures. An advanced radar application that has been developed with this environment by Cassidian (formerly EADS Defense Electronics) will be described, and will highlight the benefits of this approach, including performance improvement and legacy code re-use.
